JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Expert Group. The JPEG standard is for computers continuous still pictures. It is normally used to encode 24-bit RGB video images and will leave out some of the minor picture details for the sake of simplicity.

MPEG stands for Moving Picture Expert Group. MPEG is compression standard for compressing video since 1993. MPEG was developed specially for motion images. MPEG can compress both audio and video.

- Quality does not reduce a seven then compression is done.
- Used for movies on the web and of course for multimedia presentation.
